What we take care of

Everything below is work you can see in our own photos. Nothing on this page is a service we have not done.

Lawn care

Regular mowing and upkeep, so the yard never gets away from you.

Backyard clean-ups

Overgrowth, debris and clutter cleared out until the yard is usable again.

Concrete patios and walkways

Cement patios and walkways. In our own words: specializing in concrete patios and walkways.

Irrigation timers

Timer replacement and installation, so the water goes on when it should.

Low-maintenance landscaping

Yards planned to ask less of you every weekend.

Black mulch

Beds finished in black mulch, which is how a planted bed stops looking half done.

Firewood

Firewood. Call and ask what we have on hand.

Getting a house ready to list

Maintenance on a home that is going on the market.

A lot of our photos are the same yard twice.

Before and after is most of what we post, because most of what we do is turning a yard that got away from someone back into one they use.

The year in the yard

A yard is not one job, it is twelve months of small ones. Pick a month to see what it usually needs, and which of our services covers it.

January Winter

The yard is dormant and the ground is wet. This is the month for hauling out what the storms knocked down, and for keeping the woodpile stocked.

  • Firewood

February Winter

The last quiet month. Mulch laid now goes down before the weeds get going, which is the cheapest weeding anyone ever does.

  • Black mulch
  • Backyard clean-ups

March Spring

Irrigation wakes up. Test the timer before the dry stretch, not during it, and replace it if it has been limping along since last summer.

  • Irrigation timers
  • Lawn care

April Spring

Growth takes off and the mowing rhythm starts in earnest. A yard that gets cut on schedule in April is a yard that never needs rescuing in June.

  • Lawn care
  • Low-maintenance landscaping

May Spring

The best working window of the year for concrete. Patios and walkways go in before the heat arrives, and you get the whole summer on them.

  • Concrete patios and walkways
  • Low-maintenance landscaping

June Summer

Valley heat sets in. The timer needs its summer schedule, and the lawn needs a cut it can survive.

  • Irrigation timers
  • Lawn care

July Summer

Peak heat. This is the month a low-maintenance yard earns its keep, and a thirsty one tells you exactly where it is losing water.

  • Low-maintenance landscaping
  • Irrigation timers

August Summer

Listing season. If a house is going on the market, the yard is the first photo, and it is the one buyers see before they read a word.

  • Getting a house ready to list
  • Backyard clean-ups

September Fall

The heat eases and the second good concrete window opens. Patios and walkways again, while the ground is still dry.

  • Concrete patios and walkways
  • Lawn care

October Fall

Leaves start dropping. A fall clean-up now is a much smaller job than the same yard in January.

  • Backyard clean-ups
  • Black mulch

November Fall

Cut back, top the beds up for winter, and take the irrigation timer off its summer schedule before the first real rain.

  • Black mulch
  • Irrigation timers

December Winter

The quiet end of the year. Clear what is left standing, stack the firewood, and plan the transformation you want finished by spring.

  • Firewood
  • Backyard clean-ups

A general guide to Central Valley yard timing, built only from the services Zen Scape Inc. actually does. Your yard, your soil and your water may run a few weeks either side of it. Call and we will tell you which month you are actually in.

Answers

The questions that come up before the first call.

Where do you work?

We are based in Atwater, California, in Merced County, and we work across the Central Valley. If you are not sure whether your address is in range, call and ask.

When can I reach you?

Monday through Saturday, 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM. We are closed Sunday. Outside those hours, a message on our Facebook page will be waiting for us.

Are you licensed?

Yes. California contractor licence CSLB #1126376, status Clear. The Contractors State License Board publishes the record, so you can check it yourself before you hire anyone, us included.

Do you do concrete as well as landscaping?

Yes. Concrete is not a sideline for us: our own listing says we specialize in concrete patios and walkways, and we are listed under both landscaping and masonry and concrete.

Can you replace an irrigation timer?

Yes. Irrigation timer replacement and installation is regular work for us, and it is one of the jobs you can see in our photos.

My house is going on the market. Can you get the yard ready?

Yes. Maintenance on a house that is going up for sale is work we do and post. A clean-up plus mulch is usually the fastest visible change to a listing photo.

What does a clean-up actually cover?

Backyard clean-ups: overgrowth, debris and the accumulation that makes a yard unusable, cleared out. It is the job most of our before and after photos are showing.

Do you sell firewood?

Firewood is among the work we show. Call and ask what we have on hand.

How do I get a quote?

Call (209) 303-8842, or message the Zen Scape Inc. page on Facebook. Tell us the address and roughly what the yard needs, and we will take it from there.
